About the workshop

Painting from a live model, you’ll develop the ability to use light to render an expressive portrait while developing composition, tone, value and edges to create depth and light effects. Designed for artists who consider themselves new to painting through intermediate and advanced levels.

Dates & Schedule

The workshop is a two day weekend event. You may register for either just one or both days.

Saturday, July 27th:

  • 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM – Setup

  • 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM – Paint

  • 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM – Lunch

  • 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM – Paint

Sunday, July 28th:

  • 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM – Setup

  • 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM – Paint

  • 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM – Lunch

  • 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM – Paint

  • 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM – Critique + Final Questions

Location

Spend a relaxing day in the quaint village of Manchester Michigan painting in a historic house built from the 1830s.

Workshop Materials

Artists is responsible to bring their own:

  • Portable Easel

  • Mixing Palette

  • Palette Knife

  • Oil Paints

  • Medium

  • Paper Towel or Rag

  • Brushes

  • Brush Soap

  • Gamsol or odorless turpenoid

Tim recommends:

  • An array of hog-bristle filbert brushes

  • A palette of:

    • Titanium White

    • Cobalt red

    • Cobalt orange 

    • Lemon yellow

    • Yellow ocher

    • Yellow green

    • Thalo green

    • Cobalt turquoise

    • Veridian

    • Cobalt blue

    • Ultramarine blue

    • Permanent alizeran

    • Magenta

Lunch

Lunch will be provided. Please share any allergies and dietary restrictions with us during your registration process.

Workshop Cancellations

All workshop fees are refunded if a workshop is cancelled by the Art Kettle. There are no refunds for missed class sessions by a student.

Withdrawing from a Workshop

No refunds on visiting artist workshops.
